For the first video I have chosen a scene from the movie school of rock. I have chosen this scene because it shows how music can inspire people to leave their comfort zone and do things like play in front of people when someone pushes then to whereas normally they would not do something like that. In this movie, Jack Black (the teacher) overhears some of his students playing their instruments exceptionally well in another class. After this he calls out some of the students to pick up an instrument and play with him. At first, the students are hesitant and do not seem to sure of themselves. Eventually they do get into it though and Jack gets the idea to start a band involving all of these students. The good teaching example in this is not readily apparent and does require some explanation. Also, not shown in the movie clip toward the end is Jack Black involving more of the class by having people sing as well. So all in all the reason that I picked this song is because of how Jack Blacks teaching example gets these students to come out of their shell and just enjoy music together.
This video has been chosen to show a teaching style that is more cutthroat. In this movie, and this clip especially, The teacher tends to react very aggressively when a student plays out of time or out of tune. In this clip, He notices that a student is playing out of tune and singles one out. Now this teaching style could be very effective but I also feel that he may be taking things a little to far. For example, pointing out that a single student is out of tune can definitely motivate them to be more aware of their tuning next time so as to avoid embarrassment. However, I also feel that turning to insults in order to prove your point may not be the right approach. The teacher definitely has the right idea when it comes to getting people to be more motivated to do better but his presentation is not the best. He also makes a good point at the end when he says that not knowing you are in tune is just as bad. So I would say that this is not bad teaching. Instead, it is teaching that needs to be toned down a little.
